Jiyun, Hyunmin, and Taewon participated in the 2025 Fall Korean BioChip Society (KBCS) Conference, presenting their research through poster sessions.

Professor Yoon-Kyoung Cho has been inaugurated as the President of the Chemical and Biological Microsystems Society (CBMS), becoming the first Korean to hold this prestigious international leadership position. Her appointment reflects her global influence and long-standing contributions to microfluidics and lab-on-a-chip research.

Mamata was awarded the Best Paper Award at µTAS 2025 for her exceptional scientific work, demonstrating the impact and innovation of FRUITS Lab’s research. Congratulations!

Four FRUITS Lab members—Jungmin, Jooyoung, Mamata, and Sumit—participated in the µTAS 2025 Conference in Australia. Also, our alumni doctor Junyoung join the Conference.

Professor Yoon-Kyoung Cho was invited as a distinguished speaker at the Korea–Switzerland Symposium 2025 held at ETH Zürich. She delivered a talk on “Microfluidic Architectures Bridging Soft Matter and Bioanalytics,” showcasing our group’s advances in centrifugal and droplet-based microfluidics.

Professor Yoon-Kyoung Cho delivered a keynote lecture at the NanoBioTech–Montreux Conference 2025, an international meeting on micro- and nanoscale technologies for the biosciences.
Prof. Cho presented “Centrifugal Discs and Droplet Microfluidics for Precision Diagnostics,” outlining recent advances in microfluidic platforms for bioanalysis.
The conference brings together leading researchers in microfluidics, soft matter, and nano-bioengineering, and her keynote participation highlights the visibility of her research in the global community.

A group of students from the University of Tokyo visited UNIST in September to tour the FRUITS Laboratory. The visit fostered academic exchange, allowing students to learn about ongoing research in microfluidics, biohybrid systems, and precision diagnostics.

Thanks to Professor Ashleigh Theberge from the University of Washington for delivering a great presentation titled "Bioanalytical Systems for Translational Research." The seminar highlighted innovative microscale cell culture techniques and biofluid self-sampling tools.

To celebrate International Women’s Day, Professor Yoon-Kyoung Cho has been featured in Nature as an inspiring woman in science. Nominated by 2021 award winner Kiana Aran, Professor Cho was recognized for her groundbreaking contributions to microfluidics and lab-on-a-chip diagnostics, as well as her leadership in bridging academia and industry. Her dedication to fostering an inclusive and supportive research environment continues to inspire the next generation of scientists.

Our team members, Elizabeth, Sumit, Juhee Park, and Professor Yoon-Kyoung Cho, have published research on ultra-sensitive cancer detection, which was featured as a cover story in ACS Nano and highlighted in the news. Their innovative EV-CLIP technology enables early lung cancer detection with just a few drops of blood, offering a faster and more accurate diagnostic method.

Our FRUITS Lab successfully hosted the GRIMBS (Global Symposium on Multiscale Biohybrid Systems), with full participation from our research team. The event brought together leading researchers, including Professor Chwee Teck (C.T.) Lim and his team from NUS, Singapore, as well as Professor Shoji Takeuchi and his team from UTokyo, Japan.
Beyond the symposium, an international research center has been established to foster close collaboration and advance joint research efforts.

Professor Yoon-Kyoung Cho gave a Plenary Presentation at the SelectBIO Conference in Hong Kong, sharing insights on Microfluidic Innovations in Liquid Biopsy: From Digital EV Profiling to Point-of-Care Diagnostics.

FRUITS Laboratory members showcased their research at BME Night through poster presentations by Jungmin, Jooyoung, Elizabeth, Hyunmin, and Taewon. The team's excellence was highlighted as Jooyoung received the Outstanding Poster Award for exceptional research presentation.

The Fruits team participated in the 2024 IBS Multidisciplinary Sciences Workshop, engaging in dynamic discussions and fostering collaborations with leading researchers from diverse fields.

Prof. Cho presented "Lab-on-a-Chip Systems for Personalized Medicine" as a Plenary Speaker, showcasing advancements in microfluidic technologies for precision medicine.

Prof. Yoon-Kyoung Cho has been selected for the “Advanced Bio Global Joint Research Center Project” by the Ministry of Science and ICT. Over the next three years, her team will receive 2 billion KRW in funding to develop a multiscale convergence system for optimized muscle injury treatment, in collaboration with the University of Tokyo and the National University of Singapore.

Elizabeth delivered an oral presentation on "Digital Profiling of Tumor Extracellular Vesicle-Associated RNAs Directly from Unprocessed Blood Plasma" at the µTAS Conference.
